The Hospitals Wouldn't Run Without Each Member of Our Team
Meet the Friendly Faces of North Gateway Animal Hospital in Charleston!
Sunny- Office Manager
Sunny is the glue that holds us all together. She started here as a receptionist in 2012 and became office manager in 2017. She has two fur babies, Roxie the cat and Georgia Belle, the terrier; as well as a significant other of 5.5 years, Eric. Sunny's favorite things about working here (besides sweet puppy breath), is seeing the staff grow into their positions and succeed as a team. She loves cooking and creating new dishes and sharing them with her friends and family. She also likes traveling, boating, kayaking, canoeing, and WVU Football! She loves seeing the accomplishments of her beautiful daughter faith who is in her 1st year of college at Glenville State.
Mallory- Receptionist/Vet Assistant at Both Hospitals
Mallory is one of super stars who goes back and forth to both hospitals and is cross-trained to do just about everything. She is from Hurricane and rides and shows American Saddlebreds and Morgans. Her fur babies include Remmi, a gorgeous Great Dane/Mastiff cross, Ollie, a lovely mixed breed and Mac, her American Saddlebred. She likes working here at the clinics because she loves working with and helping animals, and has learned a lot about animals and veterinary medicine, which has helped her more at home with her own pets! She loves going to the barn to share her passions and help kids learn to ride horses in her spare time.
Nicole Hutzell- Vet Assistant at Gateway (and occasionally North Gateway!)
Nicole is from Linden, VA. She went to Concord University in Southern WV and majored in Biology. She owns an English Pointer, Scout, who she will be training this Spring to trial and hunt birds. She loves working at the veterinary hospitals because her coworkers are great and she gets to see a plethora of cases due to the "walk-in" nature of the clinics. The feelings you get after helping animals get and stay healthy are rewarding! Besides animals, sports have been a passion of hers since she was little, she played volleyball and softball throughout highschool and volleyball through college. She hopes to become a veterinarian, and is currently in the application process!
Kirsten Truman- Vet Assistant at North Gateway
Kirsten is a University of Charleston student, majoring in Biology. She has been part of our clinic for quite a few years and is capable of handling almost anything she is asked to do. She is our go-to for bottle babies and fostering kittens who need some extra TLC. She is strongly considering applying to veterinary school in the upcoming year. Pictured here is the love of her life, Emma.
Amber Elswick- Vet Assistant at North Gateway
From St. Albans, Amber has two cats- Chance and Mocha who are very sweet and cuddly. Amber likes working at North Gateway Animal Hospital because she likes helping other people's fur babies. She enjoys just about everything around the clinic, and in her spare time likes to paint, color and take photographs of the local waterfalls.
Summer Fellhauer- Receptionist at North Gateway
Also from St. Albans, Summer has a 4 year old American Bulldog named Mozzy who is the best snuggler ever. She loves being around other people who adore and love their fur babies as much as she does her own. She loves helping animals in need (of anything!) and finds it very heart-warming to work here. She loves to karaoke, go to WVU games, eat Sushi and Mexican food, commentate for her pup and play monkey in the middle with Mozzy and Cole, her boyfriend.
Stephany Blake- Vet Assistant/Receptionist at North Gateway
Stephany comes from Clay County and is one of our all stars who can work equally as well in the front and in the back of the office. She loves knowing that she is helping fur babies, and comes to work every day prepared for a new challenge. She feels her job is beyond the best and that she couldn't ask for any better work colleagues or a better work environment. Many of our clients have seen her adorable dachshund Precious hanging out at the front desk, but she also has Layla, a lab mix; Rhett, a Pyrenees; Cookie, a beagle mix; Sky, a husky mix; Trixie, a tabby cat; and a cool polydactyl cat named Mitty. Quality time with her fur babies (and her husband) is her favorite! She loves spending time with her work family, and crafts in her free-time.
Madi McDerment- Vet Assistant
Madi has been an excellent addition to our team here and lightens our days with her sense of humor. She can often be found cuddling our post-surgical patients or our hospital cats that need a little TLC. She is from Boone County and has two cats named Mr. Kitty and Ms. Kitty. She likes working with the animals and her work family. She is currently in school learning to be a Veterinary Technician!
Beth- Receptionist at North Gateway
Beth is one of the friendliest faces you will see up at our front desk. She was born in Tampa, FL but has been a West Virginian since she was 3! She has four fur babies that completely rule her world (and her house!). Muffin is her 10 year old siamese mix who loves Beth and Beth alone; Guy is her beagle mix that was a rescue and is about four years old. The twins, Milo and Otis, are American Bulldog and Dalmation mixes; Otis came to Beth at 3 weeks old and was her foster fail; Milo came from the same litter but was adopted at around 6 weeks of age. Beth loves her job and loves her coworkers and the Doctors! Most days going into work doesn't feel like a job to her. Working with animals is a wonderful experience, even when it's not always wagging tails and sloppy puppy kisses. Some days are full of emotions, but the good outweighs the bad and that keeps Beth coming in every day with enthusiasm. Outside of work, Beth likes painting, drawing, crocheting, knitting and crafting.
Camille Manzo- Vet Assistant
Camille is a Californian and is a University of Charleston student planning on going to veterinary school. She likes every minute at the practice because it helps prepare her for her future career. Outside of work, she loves makeup, is a student-athlete and loves to travel. Her furbaby is Stinger, a Mastiff-Basset Hound mix.
Elizabeth- Groomer, Vet Assistant, Receptionist
Elizabeth is another of our multi-talented girls who wears many hats around here. She is originally from North Carolina and has a whole slew of pets: Maybell & Oscar, the mini dachshunds; and Jack, Jill, Heaven & Grayson, her domestic shorthair cats. Elizabeth loves her job; in particular she likes being able to work with animals and have the opportunity to help make other people's fur babies healthier and prettier! She is an all-around kinda girl and is soon expecting her first child, a little girl.
Harley Pugh- Receptionist
Harley is from Sissonville, though Clendenin is now her home. She has three fur babies: Tucker a lab mix who was abandoned on the side of the road as a puppy; Thor, a mix abandoned after the 2016 flood with a wound in his neck; and Rex, a husky mix that she rescued. She likes working here because of her passion for helping animals and she enjoys working with the public and getting to know our clients. Outside of work, she enjoys hiking, gardening, cooking, walking her dogs and remodeling her home with her fiance!
Brenda- Receptionist, Vet Assistant
Brenda is from Elkview and is a wonderful recent addition to our team. She has three fur babies: Josie, Jake and Princess (all rescues). She loves animals and working at a job that helps them is the best job she could imagine! Outside of work, she likes to garden, travel & read and works with an animal rescue group, New Hope Animal Rescue.
Ginger Hurley- Vet Assistant, Receptionist, Groomer
Ginger does an incredible amount around both hospitals, though mostly stays at North Gate. She is a client favorite and is from Bluefield Virginia and has four fur babies; Lulu, Lil Bit, Chewy and Cassie. Ginger is in school to become a Licensed Veterinary Technician, and is one of our mainstays at the hospital. She loves that our clinic has a family atmosphere. She loves learning new things and has dedicated her life to doing anything she can to take care of all of the patients that come through here. Outside of work, she loves spending time with her family and her grandbaby.
